This film has so many good performances. Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving and Noni Hazlehurst are very good and intense in their respective roles. I am sure it was a difficult emotional journey for these actors.
The director is also fantastic in putting a very realistic portrayal of drug trafficking. Technical aspects of the film are excellent. Panning and composing of images are very nice. They look like photographs even if they appear to be handheld. The editing is well-planned and intricate. The sound is also good and not overwhelming.
But the story oh the story. It could have been great but some aspects of the script are too contrived. Lionel (Hugo) is an important character and yet her relationship with Tracey's mother (Noni) is not really clear. And the transaction in the end is not really clear.
But then that can be overseen because the actors are really good and depressing. And I love depressing movies.
